Nigeria 5th National Youth Games: Lagos in early lead, 11 year-old Alameed Oriyomi of Ogun wins 4 gold

Lagos State is currently leading on the medals table at the ongoing 5th edition of the National Youth Games holding in Ilorin the Kwara State Capital with 15 while Delta follows with 11 medals.

Four days into the games, on the medals table, as at the time of this report, Lagos State has 5 gold, 10 silver.

Athletes from about 30 states participating in the games are training hard to win more medals for their states.

Among the games are squash, volleyball, table tennis, lawn tennis, football and  ayo. 

In squash male category, Wisdom Eze of team Akwa Ibom defeated Adebayo Stephen of team Ogun 2-1, while Nnosiri Destiny of Imo State lost 0-1 to Iwaloye Christiana of Delta State in Opon ayo. 

In female football, Akwa Ibom defeated Anambra 4 goals to nil to win bronze while Lagos pounced Delta ladies 1 – 0 to win the gold medal.

Meanwhile,  an 11 year-old primary six pupil of Nawar-U-Deen Primary School, Ikija Abeokuta, Alameed Oriyomi, has won four Gold medals in the Floor, Tumbling, Erobics and Vaults events.

According to Olugbenga Arowora, Press Officer, Ogun Ministry of Youth and Sports, Master Oriyomi, who won the overall best athlete in the male category at the second day of the ongoing National Youth Festival in Ilorin, Kwara State, attributed his success to the commitment of his coach and team mates, commending Governor Abiodun for his support for the team.

Team Ogun is currently second on the games table

The event will continue with Para-Table tennis, Boxing, Chess Basketball, among others.
